              BUDWEISER MICHIAN MAJORS BOWLING ASSOCIATION

BILL KAZMIERSKI WINS 1ST MMBA TITLE

Spare making returned to vogue for the Budweiser Michigan Majors Bowling
Association at Nortel Lanes in Monroe.  Rick Gregor paced the 62 entrants with a
1371 score as it took only a score of 1203 to advance to the semi-final round.
Bill Kazmierski rolled a 707 series in the three game semi-final to jump into the
number one seed for the stepladder final.
Kazmierski though saved the best for last.  He was going against Hall of Famer,
Dale Hofmeister with 15 titles and the all time money leader.  Kazmierski said to
heck with spares as he rolled perfect 300 game to 215 for Hofmeister.
It is not unusual to have a 300 game rolled in the Michigan Majors.  But on this
day with this lane condition it was a real feat. There were only a handful of 250
games out of the 435 bowled.
Kazmierski just threw his arms in the air and said finally. It has been 18 years and
his 15th trip to the finals to win his first Michigan Majors title.
The first three matches went to the scoring of the tournament all day.  All matches
also went down to the final frame.
Kurt Pilon looked to have the match in hand. All he needed was a spare for the
win. But like all day, you were only one bad toss from an open frame.  Kurt left a
wide open split.Mason Brantley won 202-195
Brantley needed two strikes in his 10th frame
in the next match.  Hofmeister won
222-205 when he got 9 pins spare.  Hofmeister won the semi-final match 206-202
over Nick Kokenos.
When asked what the difference was in the semi-final and the stepladder.
Kazmierski said, “I watched Mason Brantley move up on the approach with 4 steps.
I tried that and it just clicked. I could get the ball right easier and started to carry.”
Hofmeister said, “I ordered by Bud after the 6th frame. I knew there was no
chance.”
The next tournament is the popular Doubles on June 5 at Lodge lanes in Belleville.
