MATT ANDERSON A WINNER AT GALAXY LANES
Matt Anderson bowling in his first Budweiser Michigan Majors was a winner at Galaxy Lanes
in Grand Blanc. Not only his first tournament but also he had to defeat Dale Hofmeister the all
time winner with 15 titles.
Anderson started with two strikes in the championship match. Hofmeister mad a rare error
when he missed a 7 pin in his 2nd frame. “This kind of calmed me down as I was so nervous,”
said Anderson. Anderson continued with four strikes in route to a 257-200 win.
George Juszczyk rolled 1525 in the 6 game qualifying round to pace the 72 entrants.
Juszczyk had two 300 games, one in the qualifying and one in the semi-final. Juszczyk said he
was upset when he missed a spare in his final game of the semi-final to lose the #1 seed to
Anderson.
Ernie Segura Jr. defeated Rory Kalanquin 224-190 in the opening match of the stepladder
final. Hofmeister won the next match 242-233 over Segura.
The semi-final match turned into who would carry the best. Hofmeister started with the firs 8
strikes while Juszczyk had two taps. Hofmeister won 267-257.
Hofmeister showed his class after the championship match. He had to stop his approach
three times in the 4th frame when a door kept opening in the rear shinning the sun in his eyes.
He then left a split. “That is no excuse give me a strike in that frame and I still lose. Give Matt
credit he bowled a great game.” said Hofmeister.
“You have to bring you’re A game when you bowl against these guys. This is a great thrill to
win your first title especially against a Hall of Famer like Hofmeister with all those titles.” Said
Anderson
